Great new album from New Zealand’s Lord Echo, courtesy of Bastard Jazz Recordings. Vibes for days here, friends. From the spacey to the afro-disco sounds, this 6 minute burner features the awesome vocal talents of Mara TK, of Electric Wire Hustle. Throw this record on and let it take you places.
I heard my boy DJ A-1 play this at Scenario tonight (a local friendly getdown), and this transported me to about 2006, when my man Choice 37 was putting out some seriously solid material (he has since moved to Korea to pursue music). The amazing vocal talents of Lauren Santiago can be heard around the break. Latin, b-boy, funky goodness right here. It has a danceable vibe with heavy drums, but then hits you with this really soulful keyboard/vocal breakdown that just stops you in your tracks. So glad I heard this tonight!
Swoon. Of course she’s Danish. I randomly stumbled across Oh Land today, and I’m not regretting it. Great sounds, from dance tunes to dream pop goodness like “Three Chances” below.
What The Fuck. Southern Rock at its finest, but from Philly. Dig it. Just wait until you get to 3:22 and I promise you, you will be ballin like some mid-life crisis tele-banker.
Great new EP from Ghana born, NYC based Blitz The Ambassador. Really pushing this global hip hop sound, and you can get this as a free download, courtesy of Jakarta Records.
The homie E Reece came out with a new free download yesterday. Check it out!
Producer D-Felic (The Hague, Netherlands) has once again linked up with MC E Reece (Los Angeles, USA) to craft the smooth track “Pura Vida,” which features songstress Kaleena Zanders and saxophonist Reagan Branch(B Side Players) to give you a FREE gift for the Summertime! The two previously teamed up on D-Felic’s 2012Flight 799 EP for its lead single entitled “LA.” “Pura Vida” is a positive song, encouraging the listener to enjoy life and live it to the fullest!
I got turned on to Yannah Valdevit by her song, Western Horizons. Then, I went to her new album, Equilibrium. The fact that it is on world renowned label, Tru Thoughts, is enough for anyone to check a new record out, and I'm glad I did. This is actually her first worldwide release, with co-production duties going to Zed Bias. Lots of great electronic sounds, with a hint of jazz in there, which was a clencher for me. The lead off track, "Gotta Keep Me Goin" has been on repeat for a little while now, so I figured I should share with you, and then I can move on to obsessing about something else.
Sooooo goooooood. With a title like that, how can you go wrong?! Sadly, there has been no vinyl release of this yet, so you can only obtain it in digital format. Still worth it!
